Web site maintenance

Introduction

If you want people who visit your Web site to return, then you may need to provide them with something new for their next visit. Nothing is worse than a site that contains typos and/or spelling errors, out-of-date and/or erroneous information, unchanging content, etc.

To remain interesting and attractive, your site will need to be maintained regularly. For example, its content will need to be replaced and/or expanded from time-to-time. Many of the popular sites on the Web are ones whose content change frequently, such as www.bbc.co.uk or www.amazon.co.uk.

These sites require a huge amount of work. However, while your site may be less ambitious than these, nevertheless it will undoubtedly need some maintenance. I charge £20 per hour for Web site maintenance. The minimum charge for part of an hour is £10. These costs should be borne in mind when planning your Web site.

With careful planning, many of these maintenance costs can be reduced or avoided entirely. For example, it is possible to design Web sites which contain templates that format plain text automatically, so that much of the maintenance work can be carried out by clients themselves.

Let me know if you think I may be able to help you.
